Author Guidelines
Guide for Authors
Dear Authors!
When submitting a manuscript to Gumilyov Journal of Pedagogy, the Editorial Office strongly urges you to carefully review the Editorial Policy, which includes:
- general information about the Journal;
- the Guide for Authors;
- the Publication Ethics provisions.
Failure to comply with these rules may lead to significant delays in the review and publication of your manuscript.
Submission of a manuscript to the Editorial Office constitutes the author’s (or authors’) automatic consent to transfer publishing rights to L. N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University for publication in the print and/or electronic versions of the Journal.
All submissions must be made exclusively through the Journal’s OJS (Open Journal System). To ensure the double-blind peer-review process, authors must provide two versions of the manuscript:
- With full author information (full name, academic degree, position, affiliation, e-mail address, and ORCID if available);
- An anonymized version, omitting any indication of the author’s identity, including acknowledgments, footnotes, and self-citations that could reveal authorship.
Manuscript files should be named according to the article title with the appropriate designation:
- File with author details: Article Title (with authors).docx
- File without author details: Article Title (without authors).docx
Example:
- Inclusive Education in Higher Education (with authors).docx
- Inclusive Education in Higher Education (without authors).docx
Authors must also upload a Cover Letter (a template for the cover letter is available on the Journal’s official website).

In-Text Citation Guidelines
In-text citations must be formatted using round brackets in accordance with the following structure: (Author, Year):
- When citing a single author: (Simanovsky, 2025);
- When citing two authors: (Myers & Thuenj, 2014);
- When citing three authors: at first mention — (Karpenko, Kazanbiyeva & Dubinina, 2022), subsequent citations — (Karpenko et al., 2022);
- When citing four or more authors: always use (Ermentayeva et al., 2014);
- Multiple references should be listed in reverse chronological order, separated by semicolons: (Simanovsky, 2025; Karpenko, Kazanbiyeva & Dubinina, 2022; Horowitz, 2006);
- When citing multiple works by the same author in the same year, use letter suffixes: (Simanovsky, 2025a; Simanovsky, 2025b);
- In the absence of a personal author, cite the organization or use “Anon”: (United Nations, n.d.) or (Anon, n.d.);
- When the date is unknown, use “n.d.”: (Myers, n.d.);
- Secondary sources should be cited as: (Campbell, E., 1976, as cited in: Barkhausen, G., 2016, p. X).
Basic Requirements for the Reference List Formatting
- Sources in the reference list must be arranged in alphabetical order by the surname of the first author.
- If the list includes both Cyrillic (Kazakh and Russian) and Latin-script sources, all entries in Cyrillic should appear first (in the order of the Russian/Kazakh alphabet), followed by entries in Latin script (in alphabetical order).
- If the majority of sources are in English, the reference list should begin with Latin-script entries in alphabetical order, followed by Cyrillic entries in the order of the Russian/Kazakh alphabet.
- At least 30% of the sources cited must be indexed in Scopus and/or Web of Science
- At least 50% of the sources must have been published within the last 10 years, and at least half of them must be no older than 3 years.
- Self-citations by the authors and co-authors of the article should not exceed 20% of the total number of references.
- If a cited article has a DOI, it is mandatory to include it in the reference.
- In-text citations must follow the author-date format, placed in round brackets immediately after the relevant quote or reference.
- If the author's name is already mentioned in the text, only the year (and page number, if applicable) should be placed in parentheses.
Below are examples of properly formatted references and in-text citations following the Harvard referencing style.
